Pre-Shipment Fabric Inspection: GSM, Width, Color Fastness and Shrinkage Checks

Pre-shipment inspection helps overseas buyers reduce risk before fabric leaves the supplier. For woven fabric orders, the inspection plan should be connected to the approved sample, written specification sheet and purchase order.

Common inspection items

  • GSM and usable width: confirm fabric weight and width against agreed tolerance.
  • Color and handfeel: compare bulk fabric with approved sample or lab dip.
  • Surface defects: check stains, holes, yarn defects, coating marks or lamination problems.
  • Shrinkage and color fastness: confirm test requirements before bulk production when the garment wash risk is important.

For coated or laminated fabric

Functional fabrics may need extra attention to coating appearance, bonding strength, water resistance, breathability or buyer-specific testing. These requirements should be discussed before sampling so the quotation and lead time are realistic.

When sending an inquiry, include the inspection standard, target application and required test items. Taiya Textile can review the fabric route and recommend what should be confirmed before shipment.
