Fabric sourcing notes
GSM, usable width and composition are the three baseline specifications most woven fabric buyers should confirm before sample approval and price comparison.
Key points for buyers
- GSM affects handfeel, coverage, garment structure and freight weight.
- Usable width matters because edge loss and finishing shrinkage can change cutting efficiency.
- Composition affects dyeing, strength, price, shrinkage, care labels and test performance.
- Buyers should compare specs using the same test method and sample condition.
Practical sourcing note
When buyers compare prices from different suppliers, small differences in GSM or usable width can change the real cost per garment. A cheaper meter price may not be cheaper if the width is narrower or if shrinkage is higher. Before confirming bulk production, review a physical sample and confirm whether the stated GSM and width refer to greige fabric, finished fabric or bulk-inspected goods.
